A representative of the Lithuanian Embassy in Ukraine visited Lutsk
On February 27, 2019 the Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine, Minister-Adviser of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania Tadas Valionis was in our city. Within the framework of the visit he met with the secretary of Lutsk City Council, Acting Mayor Hryhorii Pustovit.
Hryhoriy Pustovit congratulated the representative of the Lithuanian Embassy in Lutsk. In his welcome speech, he emphasized that our two nations had a common history, for a long time a part of Ukraine was part of the Duchy of Lithuania. During this period the city’s main tourist attraction the Lutsk Castle was built.
In recent years the remarkable cooperation of Lutsk with the cities of Lithuania has developed. In particular Hryhorii Pustovit told about the friendly relations with the Tauragė District. Over the past three years, the Administration of the Tauragė District organized several rehabilitation visits to the Tauragė City: for the children of deceased ATO participants in 2016, for children of ATO participants in 2017 and 2018. In addition, Lutsk actively cooperates with Kaunas, Tauragė and Trakai Districts in the framework of the project "The Gediminids’ Way," the purpose of which is to promote the mutual cultural and historical heritage of the Belarusian, Lithuanian, Polish, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Czech and other nationalities, which lived under the rule of the Gediminids dynasty in XIII -XV centuries or had direct dynastic ties with it. In 2019, a joint project with the Trakai City on the revitalization of cultural heritage will be launched with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.
On February 14-16th, 2019, the official delegation of the Lutsk City Council took part in events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the city of Kaunas as the temporary capital of Lithuania. In return, we regularly hold the "Days of Europe" in Lutsk and invite guests from Lithuania for these holidays. Last year, in the framework of the ethnic festival "Christmas in Lutsk", a large delegation from Lithuania visited us to greet Lutsk residents with Christmas and present a piece of their culture.
Hryhoriy Pustovit mentioned about one of the most important historical events for the whole Europe - the Congress of monarchs which was held in Lutsk in 1429. He noted that it was a decisive political event. "Since the beginning of this year, various events have been taking place in Lutsk on the occasion of the 590th anniversary of the Congress of European monarchs which we are celebrating this year.
These are scientific and practical lectures, exhibitions and presentations, which involve scholars, historians, the public, including young people. Also we are already preparing for the celebration of 600th anniversary of the Congress of Lutsk and we expect this event to be celebrated at the state level. We will do everything possible to popularize and give it a modern interpretation", said Hryhoriy Pustovit.
The Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine, Tadas Valionis, thanked for the meeting. He mentioned that our history has united our nations and historic studies and historians' discussions on the theme of the Congress of European Monarchs offered even more opportunities for cooperation and deepening of partnerships. "Last year, the number of Ukrainians who visited Lithuania increased significantly. At the same time, a lot more Lithuanians visited Ukraine. This is a very good indicator, so we will continue helping and supporting each other," he emphasized.
Hryhoriy Pustovit also told the representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania about cooperation with the leading European institutions in the field of energy saving, implementation of energy-efficient technologies, within which it is possible to receive grant funds for heat and energy modernization of the buildings of municipal institutions.
