Lutsk residents took part in the all-Polish action "National Reading"
On September 5, 2020 Lutsk residents took part in the all-Polish action "National Reading".
It was initiated in 2012 by the President of Poland and aims to promote the Polish literature. This annual event takes place in Poland and abroad. The time and the literary work for the event is proposed by the President of Poland.
In Lutsk such readings are held every year with the participation of representatives of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk and the Tadeusz Kosciuszko Society of Polish Culture. This year the event was attended by the Secretary of Lutsk City Council, Acting Mayor Hryhorii Pustovit, Deputy Mayor Iryna Chebeliuk and Director of the Department of Culture Tetiana Hnativ.
Hryhorii Pustovit noted the importance of such events as they unite all nationalities of our city: Ukrainians, Poles, Czechs, Germans, Karaites and Jews in one big family which loves Lutsk, Volyn, and our cultural heritage.
For this year "National Reading" round a drama "Balladyna" by Juliusz Słowacki was chosen. It was written by the author in exile in 1834 in Geneva. The drama is often compared to Shakespeare's Macbeth, as both show cruel and evil human nature.
