The celebrations on the occasion of the 100th anniversary from proclamation of Kaunas as the temporary capital of Lithuania
On 14-16 February 2019 the celebrations on the occasion of the 100th anniversary from proclamation of Kaunas as the temporary capital of Lithuania took place in Kaunas, Republic of Lithuania. On invitation of Kaunas City Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis the official delegation from Lutsk composed of Yurii Bezpiatko, member of Lutsk Сity Сouncil, and Oleksandr Servatovych, member of Executive Сommittee of Lutsk Сity Сouncil, participated in the event. The representatives of all partner-cities of Kaunas took part in the celebrations.
The year of 2019 is very important to Kaunas and whole Lithuania. One hundred years ago, in 1919, Kaunas became a temporary capital of Lithuania and a guarantor of the formation of Lithuanian statehood.
During the period of 1919-1939 Kaunas performed diplomatic functions. This consolidated the Lithuanian nation and enhanced strengthening the national identity, formation of modern traditions, language, culture, science and the new trends of widely recognized modernist architecture in Europe which emerged in Kaunas, giving boost to the country development.
Participants of the celebrations were offered an interesting program of stay. Guests visited buildings of diplomatic and former national institutions in Kaunas. Invited delegations were able to see the newly opened exhibition dedicated to Centenary of the Lithuanian Diplomatic Service, Historical Presidential Palace, former House of Parliament and other institutions. Lutsk representatives attended a solemn commemorative event with festive concert of the most prominent artists of Lithania at ”Zalgiris” arena.
Within the visit the main directions of future bilateral cooperation and initiatives were arranged.
