The Lutsk City Council delegation has visited partner Kreis Lippe in Germany

On 11-14 September 2023, the Lutsk City Council delegation headed by Secretary of City Council Iurii Bezpiatko has visited partner Kreis Lippe in Germany. The visit was an important step in implementing the collaborative grant project between Lutsk and Kreis Lippe "Joint search for new solutions in municipal services: organic waste management in Lutsk city territorial community".

Lutsk representatives gained valuable insights into top-notch waste management methodologies used in Kreis Lippe.

During the visit to the Waste Recycling Centre in Lemgo, the delegation obtained detailed information regarding the specificities of organic waste management in Lippe: public organic waste collection, the removal of plastic and metal contaminants from organic waste, as well as the various technological phases involved in composting.

The German colleagues arranged a visit to the wastewater treatment plant in Lage for the guests from Lutsk. This plant manages both sewage and rainwater and undergoes continuous modernization efforts. It actively incorporates energy-efficient technologies and relies on renewable energy sources to secure energy independence.

During the visit to the waste incineration plant in Bielefeld, representatives of the city of Lutsk toured its facilities, learned about the history of its creation and the specificities of its operation.

A significant highlight during the Lippe visit involved a productive session with Robin Wagener, a Bundestag member and advisor to German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. Iurii Bezpiatko, Secretary of Lutsk City Council, extended gratitude to Mr. Wagener and the German government for supporting Ukraine in the difficult time of war. The meeting encompassed discussions on potential collaborative areas for future cooperation between the parties.

Lutsk representatives further explored the Innovation Campus in Lemgo, a dynamic campus accommodating 5,000 university students and about 4,500 secondary school students. The campus has buildings with research laboratories, classrooms and workrooms where STEM education is actively implemented.

Throughout the visit to Kreis Lippe, a number of working meetings were held with the regional authorities. They discussed completed, ongoing, and future joint projects. Among the significant outcomes, representatives of Kreis Lippe had handed over a Ford minibus for the needs of Lutsk community, which was purchased within the framework of the project "Improving Public Protection in Municipal Partnerships with Ukraine" funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development through the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).

The visit was carried out within the framework of the project "Joint search for new solutions in municipal services: organic waste management in Lutsk city territorial community". The project is being implemented by the Executive Committee of Lutsk City Council and Kreis Lippe, Germany, with the financial support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development through the Engagement Global gGmbH.
