Europe Day 2014 in Lutsk

Europe Day 2014 in Lutsk

On 17 May Lutsk celebrated the Day of Europe. The Theatre Square of Lutsk was filled with atmosphere of peace and unity and turned into the “European city”.  The festivities enabled everyone to once again clearly see that the Ukrainian and European societies are closely linked not only geographically, but also in historical and spiritual sense.

With their drawings on the asphault chidren, who represented Lutsk schools, showed their vision of Ukraine and its European future. Calls for peace and national motives prevailed in the drawings of young artists.

Volunteers – masters of the body-art initiated the activity “Europe in Culture” and drew European symbols on hands and faces of the festivities participants.

In “European Trolley-bus”, decorated with European symbols and maps, the passengers could get interesting literature about Europe and European Union, which was presented by Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk and diplomatic missions in Ukraine. Lutsk National Technical University organized the photo-exhibition about Europe places of interest inside the trolley-bus.

Representatives of Lutsk Higher Education Institutions displayed information about their international activities, experience of international projects realization.

The photo-exhibition "Lutsk European" drew attention of all the activities participants.

The activities were highlighted by a topical flash mob “Integrity of Ukraine in Secure Europe”, organized with the help of Volyn Regional Public Organization "We plus" and the online community “Fleshmobery”. “We are the children of modern Europe and strive together with European countries to jointly build our common future and the future of our native Ukraine in peace and harmony” – this was the motto of the flash mob.

Lutsk City Mayor Mykola Romaniuk, Consul General of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk Beata Brzywczy, Vice-Consul of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk greeted everyone and handed to the participants of the contests “Euroolimpiada” and “Drawing on the asphalt” prizes from the diplomatic missions.

Among the best drawings Mayor of Lutsk distinguished two, which impressed him most. That was the tree which lacked one branch. The tree symbolized European Union and the branch in the form of Ukrainian flag represented our country. Another unforgettable drawing presented the flower of European Union with the petal, symbolizing Ukraine.

Then there was the most magical moment and the climax of the event. Lutsk citizens brought together the flags of Ukraine and European Union to Theater Square and sew them into one. “In Europe Day we honor our shared values, common history and most importantly - our common future. For a long time we have thought how to interest our citizens and involve them to share European values. Thus, together with the NGO “We plus” we decided to sew two flags as a symbol of peace not only in Ukraine  but also in Europe,” – said the Head of the International Cooperation and Project Activities Vira Kudriavtseva.

This year the Day of Europe in Lutsk was supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk, Delegation of European Union in Ukraine, Embassy of the Lithuanian Republic in Ukraine, Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Ukraine, Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in Ukraine.
