Europe Day - 2015 in Lutsk
On 16 May 2015 the city of Lutsk held the festivities, dedicated to the celebration of the Europe Day. Central Lesia Ukrainka Park of Culture and Recreation turned into the centre of European culture, where one could see the variety of flags and get involved into European traditions etc. All this provided the possibility to once again strength that Ukrainian and European communities are closely interrelated not only geographically but also in historical and spiritual senses.
Traditionally within the framework of the Europe Day the festival “Eurovision” took place, where each Lutsk school presented the European Union member country by singing or dancing. There was a possibility to enjoy the atmosphere and get knowledge on culture and traditions of the European countries.
From the stage of the festivities everybody was greeted by the First Deputy Mayor of Lutsk Taras Iakovlev, Consul of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk Kszysztof Savicki. They handed presents from the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk, the diplomatic missions of EU countries, EU Delegation to Ukraine and sponsors to the winners and the participants of the European Olimpiad.
Talented children from Lutsk schools painted the Park paths with European motifs, expressing in drawings their vision of European development of Lutsk. The name of this year Drawing on the Asphalt contest was “My European City”.
Volunteers-body art masters drew the traditional European symbols on peoples’ hands and faces.
Representatives of higher and vocational education institutions installed presentation stands with information on international activities, achievements, the experience of international projects implementation.
The Europe Day in Lutsk was supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk, EU Delegation to Lutsk, Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine, Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in Ukraine, the Czech Cultural Centre.
The culmination of the event was a flash mob, where the flags of European Union and the flag of Ukraine flew up into the sky with the help of the yellow and blue baloons.
