Lutsk City Mayor Ihor Polishchuk has met with French diplomat Benjamin Roehrig to discuss humanitarian needs of our community
Today, Lutsk City Mayor Ihor Polishchuk has met with Deputy Chief of Mission at the French Embassy in Ukraine Benjamin Roehrig. During a one-hour meeting, the parties have been discussing the key challenges that Ukraine and Lutsk in particular face with.
Lutsk City Mayor thanked the guest and the whole France for their position towards Ukraine. After all, since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion, France has been assisting Ukraine not only in the military sphere, but also in the humanitarian area. France sends to Ukraine generators, medications, food as well as helps to restore logistics routes in the de-occupied territories. The city of Lutsk was also sent a humanitarian cargo from the city of Fos-sur-Mer in April last year. The cargo included children's clothing, food for longer-term storage and medications.
«Despite the fact that Lutsk is relatively far from the war zone, our city was attacked by missile strikes four times. Energy facilities, the airfield and oil depot were damaged. So we had to get used to the new realities. We have set up an aid center in Lutsk to receive the most necessary supplies. During its operation, the center has received and delivered more than 200,000 tons of goods to military units and cities affected by military aggression. There has also been created a center to help internally displaced people. It provided people with clothes, food, hygiene products and furniture as well as offered psychological support,» said Lutsk City Mayor.
In turn, Benjamin Roehrig has noted that he is currently trying to visit different regions of Ukraine. He has mentioned that this is the only way to find out what kind of help is needed most. Benjamin Roehrig is convinced that people should not be hostages of the humanitarian crisis provoked by russia. France is ready to continue supporting friendly Ukrainian people, because this country stands for democracy. It condemns violence and disregard for international laws and norms. The diplomat has also asked what Lutsk community needs most urgently today.
«The biggest need is in diesel generators. They are needed to support critical infrastructure facilities, in particular, boiler houses. The enemy is very insidious, so we have to make sure that the community does not have serious interruptions in heat, light, and water supply. The equipment is powerful but expensive. And now the municipality is working to purchase it,» said Ihor Polishchuk.
At the end of the meeting, the French guest thanked Ihor Polishchuk for the warm welcome and promised to support both Lutsk community and Ukraine as a whole. He emphasized that the all the French wish brave Ukrainians victory!
