The city of Lutsk and Tauragé District Municipality of the Republic of Lithuania have officially become twin cities
On 19 October, Lutsk City Council welcomed delegates from Tauragé District Municipality (Republic of Lithuania), namely Mayor of Tauragé District Municipality Dovydas Kaminskas, Member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Romualdas Vaitkus, Member of the Tauragé District Council and former Mayor of Tauragé District Municipality Sigitas Michulis, as well as Head of the Associations of Entrepreneurs of Tauragé District Marius Jučikas.
Ihor Polishchuk thanked his Lithuanian colleagues for visiting Lutsk, despite the martial law and dangerous situation in the country. "Thank you for your visit, for your attention to our city and the issues of our country in general, as well as for the cooperation that has already been established between our cities. Your assistance gives us hope and faith in victory, because the support of our partners is crucial during this tough war, and the situation would be completely different without it. We are convinced that we will have fruitful cooperation not only now but also after the victory," he said.
Moreover, in July 2023, a meeting was held with a delegation of members of the Lithuanian Seimas led by Vice Speaker Paulus Saudargas and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine Valdemaras Sarapinas. The delegation has visited Lutsk as part of the “Let's Win Together” biker rally. It was created in support of Ukraine and its route ran through Volyn region.
Representatives of the Lithuanian delegation praised Ukrainians for their courage and fortitude, they emphasized that Ukraine is currently defending all Europe.
During the meeting, participants discussed topical issues and priority tasks for further cooperation. The delegates were particularly interested in the chellenges that Lutsk is currently facing in terms of civil protection, preparation for winter, as well as available support for internally displaced persons.
Ihor Polishchuk stated that the city Lutsk has already started the heating season, but Ukraine is preparing for a harsh winter since the enemy has analyzed previous mistakes and is accumulating strength for future attacks on infrastructure to deprive Ukrainians of normal living conditions. The city is currently supplied with generators and 68 heating stations. City Mayor also mentioned that Lutsk hosts over 10,000 internally displaced people, many of whom are in difficult life situations after losing their homes. However, the local administration assists and supports them in every possible way, providing clothes, hygiene items, food, school supplies etc.
Ihor Polishchuk highlighted that the city government actively supports the Armed Forces of Ukraine. More than 250 million UAH has been allocated for these purposes. Additionally, employees of the city council and municipal enterprises donate daily wages, that has enabled the purchase of 55 vehicles, bulletproof vests, helmets, drones and other items valued at over 20 million UAH.
An important aspect of discussion was assistance to IDPs and the military. The City Council and the delegation discussed the possibilities of continued collaboration, particularly the provision of humanitarian aid and the purchase of vehicles for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
At the end of the meeting, a partnership agreement was signed between Lutsk and Tauragé District Municipality.
