Pottery workshops for disabled people in Rzeszów (Poland)
On 26-30 May pottery workshops for 10 Lutsk representatives (8 participants and 2 carers) took place in Rzeszów (Republic of Poland) as a part of the project “Joint cooperation network within culture and welfare on behalf of the development of the cities of Polish-Ukrainian borderland”. The participants of this event were handicapped people and representatives of social care sphere of Lutsk and Rzeszów. Our city was represented by Lutsk Social Service Center for Families, Children and Young People, Volyn Youth Center for Rehabilitation of Disabled People called “Dzherelo zhytia” and art-studio “Ole-Art”. They all had an opportunity to get acquainted with the students and tutors of Institution of Self-aid in Rzeszów.
During five days of workshops, participants from Poland and Ukraine had an opportunity to learn how to work with clay, deal with the finished shapes, work with the potter's wheel and also decorate their own items with colors and glaze. Joint art lessons made it easier for participants to get acquainted with each other as well as integrate these handicapped people and their tutors from both cities.
Moreover, the excursions to the nearest places of interest were organized for the workshops participants. Everyone was impressed by the Liubomyrsky and Pototsky residence with the exquisite castle, gardens, orangeries and a great collection of carriages. Finally, a visit to Medyna Glodovska helped the participants to learn the basic skills of pottery. In a traditional workshop, the guides showed the methods of mining and working with the clay, told about the customs of burning the pottery and of course, gave the opportunity to make the items on their own. Apart from that, the participants from Lutsk visited the main tourist attractions of Rzeszów – music fountain, tourist underground route, central streets and galleries.
Common lessons connected Ukrainian and Polish participants. During parting, they exchanged symbolic gifts and expressed hope to see each other in the nearest future.
