The Righteous among the Nations were awarded in Lutsk
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel in Ukraine Mr. Reuven Dinel is hosted today in Lutsk.
During the visit, he participated in awarding people diplomas and medals of “Righteous among the Nations”. The “Righteous Among the Nations” helped to save Jews from the horrors of the Holocaust, often at a great risk to their personal and their families safety. The awards are distributed to the rescuers or their next-of-kin during ceremonies in Israel, or in their countries of residence through the offices of Israel's diplomatic representatives.
This time the ceremony of awarding was held in Lutsk and 5 families from Volyn, Rivne and Ternopil regions received their medals. Mr. Ambassador admited that the issue of the “Righteous” was paid much attention in Israel. He stressed that this work would continue until all the Righteous would have been found and properly honored.
For twenty years the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine holds annual solemn ceremony of awarding Righteous among the Nations, 2472 of Ukrainians received this award. Ukraine ranks fourth place in the world for the number of Righteous after Poland, the Netherlands and France.
