A barrier-free route was presented in Lutsk

A barrier-free route was presented in Lutsk

This is a pilot project that will still be refined and further examined. Its presentation took place during a meeting of the Barrier-Free Council.

The route connects the Municipal Enterprise "Medical Rehabilitation Center for Combat Veterans of Lutsk City Territorial Community" and the Lutsk Military Garrison Hospital. It runs through Voli Avenue, from where public transport can take passengers to the city center or to the stop on Bohdana Khmelnytskoho Street. From there, people can either walk or use wheelchairs to reach the final stop.

Deputy Mayor of Lutsk, Iryna Chebeliuk, explained that a specific route is selected, ensuring that no obstacles hinder a person’s passage. "This must include all criteria: public transport, road surfaces, schools and kindergartens, intersections, stops. It encompasses the entire space of components that should ensure accessibility from one place to another, including social infrastructure and business facilities. They must all be accessible to people with disabilities," she emphasized.

Many cities in Ukraine have joined this pilot project, developing similar routes. Now, this initiative applies to all communities. The route should be mapped and available for viewing so that people can choose their desired path accordingly.
